What are the DOD Information Assurance (IA) Training Requirements?
DoD 8410 or DoD 8570 Directive is also recognized as information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program. The DoD (Department of Defense) voted for a directive stating that all information Assurance recruits must become compliant with the mandated security and IT standards. There exist levels of compliance that parallel the job function. The most common certifications in the DOD Directive 8570.01 include A+, Security +, Network+, CISSP, and CEH.
DOD Information Assurance (IA) Training Requirements
Technical requirements acquaint you with the latest skills needed by today’s computer support professionals.
Level (I)
- A+ Certification Training: To receive CompTIA A+ certification you must pass two exams. The CompTIA A+ 220-801 Certification Exam determines the necessary aptitudes for an entry-level IT professional with the equivalent knowledge of at least one year of pro-active experience in the field or lab.
- Network+ Training & Certification: It is an international certification that shows that you have sufficient knowledge in managing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and configuring basic network infrastructure. You must pass an exam that covers network technologies, installation and configuration, management, network topologies, and security.
- SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner): This certification shows your credibility to the Information Security world. It requires one year experience.
Level (II)
- Security +: you must pass the SY0-401 certification exam that covers most foundational principles of securing a network and managing risk.
- SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner): requires that you have one year experience in several security disciplines and must pass the Systems Security Certified Practitioner exams.
Level (III)
- CISSP training and certification: you must pass the ISC (2) CISSP exam that covers security and risk management, security engineering among other things.
- CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor): CISA enhances your credibility and recognition. It requires a five-year professional information systems auditing, control or security work experience and you must pass CISA exam.
Management Level Requirements for DOD Information Assurance
- CAP: You are required to have enough knowledge in IT Security, Information Assurance and one to two years of systems/ database development/ network experience (level I and II).
- Security+: You are required to have two years’ experience in network administration with a focus on security. You should pass the ST0-401 examination (level I).
- CISSP, CISM: you must earn a CISSP that meets the DoD and Government compliance with FISMA as well as DoD Directive 8570.01-M. It is required that you pass the ISC(2) CISSP exams (level II and II )
Computer network Defense (CND) Certifications Requirements
- CEH: Exposes you to techniques of conducting ethical hacking and how to achieve optimal information security. To become an Ethical Hacker (CEH), you are required to do 125 multiple choice questions and achieve a pass score of 70 % within a period of 4 hrs. This course is a requirement for an analyst, infrastructure support, Incident Responder, and Auditors.
- SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner): The focus of SSCP is on the issues and skills relevant to everyday system and network administrator than the managerial side. You are required to pass SSCP exams to offer infrastructure support.
- CISSP-ISSMP: To be an Information Systems Security Management Professional (SP-Manager) you must pass CISSP certification exam.
- CISM: SP-Managers are required to enroll in the Certified Information Security Manager course. As an SP-Manager, you will gain knowledge and experience to provide effective security management as well as consulting services.
Information Assurance Architecture and Engineering (IASAE) certifications requirements
- CISSP: it is an international recognized certification for information security professionals. It is a requirement for both level (I) and (II) certifications. Your competency is determined by your performance in the ISC(2) CISSP exam.
- CISSP-ISSAP: this course enables you to understand the basic concepts in Information security within the framework of architecture as well as design. To receive the level III certifications, you are required to pass the CISSP-ISSAP exam.
- CISSP-ISSEP: it is a level (III) certification that enables you to demonstrate your knowledge of the standards and regulations concerning systems security. You must pass the CISP-ISSEP exam.
Computing Environment Level Requirements
Apart from the baseline IA certification requirements listed above, the DoD 85701.1 mandate requires that IATs with privilege access must have applicable Computing Environment (CE) certifications for Operating Systems.
- IAT Level (I): you are required to have: MCTIP and MCTS: Windows and Configuration and Desktop support Technician, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and CompTIA Linux+
- IAT Level (II): requires that you have: MCTIP: 2008 Server Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Linux_ and Oracle 10G DBA.
- IAT Level (III): requires that you have MCTIP: 2008 Enterprise and Server Administrator, MCTIP:2008 Server administrator and CompTIA Linux+
