Project Management Certifications: What Does PMI Offer My Workers?

Project managers are becoming increasingly in demand in the business world, and having a few skilled project managers on your staff can greatly help your organization. To help your team hone their skills in this area, there are a number of professional certifications available in this area. Here's what you need to know about the options available to you.

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

The PMP certification is the most highly prized designation in the field. Companies in a variety of industries recognize it around the world. To be eligible for the training course, students must have at least a high school diploma and five years of project management experience, or a college degree and three years of experience. Students in both categories must complete a minimum of 35 hours of training before taking the certification exam. The exam itself includes 175 scored questions and takes about 4 hours to complete.

Program Management Professional (PgMP) Certification

The PgMP certification trains higher-level employees in managing multiple simultaneous projects. It is designed to help achieve compounded results that would not be possible if the projects were managed individually. Students with a high school diploma must have at least four years of project management experience and seven years of program management experience before starting the training course. Those who have a college degree must a minimum of four years of experience in each category. The 4-hour exam includes 150 scored questions.

Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) Certification

Every project has inherent risks that could create major complications for your organization. The PMI-RMP certification helps students to learn how to predict and manage these risks to ensure successful project completion. Students who have obtained a high school diploma must also have at least 4,500 hours of experience in risk management before completing a 30-hour training course. Those with college degrees must have 3,000 hours of risk management experience and complete 40 hours of training before taking the certification exam. This exam takes 3-1/2 hours to complete and includes 150 scored questions.

Benefits of Certifying Your Team

As the global business world continues to become more and more competitive, the world will leave behind businesses that are unable to streamline their operations. The certifications described here can help your employees learn how to manage projects and programs with maximum efficiency, delivering the best possible results for your organization.

Without proper training, your team will be forced to learn through a process of trial and error. Although this can still be an effective learning method, any mistakes made could have major ramifications for your organization. Completing a rigorous training program will help your team to avoid these costly mistakes, getting them up to speed as quickly as possible.
